Siemens First Electric Chopper

As I am writing this article I am thinking about electric chopper motorcycle that was builds by OCC (Orange County Choppers). Chopper motorcycle is kind of cruiser motorcycle that was very familiar for cruiser motorbike lovers. But this electric chopper motorcycle is recent news even for chopper lovers. Paul Teutul and the OCC crew have created an electric chopper for the electronic and engineering power house, Siemens.

I am really excited for this electric chopper concept, there’s no air pollution and no global warming when using these electric chopper, Orange County Choppers is going green. Paul Teutul was seen cruising around New York City’s Time Warner Wednesday on what is being touted as the first electric chopper. The latest custom chopper motorcycle built by the OCC crew runs on batteries and is made from recycled parts. How about the power? Usually this kind of electric motorcycle is lack of power.

According to the Siemens pronouncement the electric chopper can have a range of 60 miles after charging up for five hours and is said to reach a top speed of 100 mph. I think this is not good enough for cruiser motorcycle, but this is was something new for building an electric bike from recycled materials. The electric chopper is powered by a series-wound 8-inch motor with 27 peak horse-power from Advanced DC Motors Inc. This electric chopper utilizes 72 Die Hard AGM batteries (96 12-volt cells) and has on-board charger and LED lights from Osram Sylvania, and everything was hand fabricated in the OCC work shop.

Siemens Smart Chopper Technical Specs :

1. Engine: Type Advanced DC Motor Inc. series wound 8-inch motor with 27 peak horse-power and 72-96 volts peak electrical output.

2. Battery: Type 72-Volt Die hard AGM batteries (96 12-volt cells) capacity 72 volts with input standard 110 V

3. Transmission: Direct drive clutchless one-speed with 4:1 dual-chain drive.

4. Chassis/ suspension: Rigid frame.

5. Brakes: Front brakes are fully hydraulic, stainless steel dual disc (hand controlled). Rear brakes are fully hydraulic, stainless steel dual disc (foot controlled).

6. Front tire 21 x 3,5 Metzeler and rear tire 18 x 10,5 (300mm) Metzeler

7. Wheelbase 120 inches and head angle 40 degrees plus 5 in trees

8. Frame approx 75 lbs; total weight about 350 lbs.
